Every once in a while, I'm writing an article, but instead of writing, I'd rather just say it. With the focus on United healthcare that everyone else has, the world is now paying attention to the thing I so, dearly, care about! It's time to talk about health insurance, and the things that are broken with it. Health insurance is deeply problematic, because we're trying to manage risks that we don't control. This is true of every kind of insurance, but not every insurance market functions in a rational way.

In this video, I compare flood insurance to the problem of drug pricing and health insurance. We have some catastrophic risks, and those risks are not manageable. And this leads to some very strange behaviors in the healthcare marketplace. There's been a lot of anger about health insurance denial, recently, and that makes sense to me. It's also true that if all the healthcare payments collapse, we're all going to be worse off.
