I like making podcasts. Originally, this was going to be an article, but I realized it worked better as a series of interviews in podcast format. So here it is!
Transcranial magnetic stimulation has not been addressed as an actual product. My wife,
, is a “Product Person,” and thinks non-stop about bringing the product—effective, interventional psychiatric treatment—to the world. Much to her delight, she is not alone. In this episode of the podcast, she is joined by her colleagues, Drs. Will Sauve and Jonathan Downar about one TMS variant in specific, the more rapid stimulation pattern called Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation (iTBS). I tell the story of how TMS was developed and then the subsequent development of iTBS. It’s a 3-minute treatment. Or, sometimes, a 30-second treatment. That is way better— in terms of the amount of time—than 38 minutes. However, is iTBS as good as the very good thing that was High-Frequency stimulation? And how do we choose what to change, as physicians? These questions, and more, are addressed in this episode of the Frontier Psychiatrists podcast.
Jonathan Downar, by the way, is so obsessed with this problem that he founded a company called Ampa Health, which I’ve written about before. Ampa sponsors Rapid Acting Mental Health Treatment on May 18th, in Los Angeles.
And please enjoy this podcast episode. It’s about 30 minutes.
If you’re interested in the rapid-acting treatments we discuss in the podcast, you can learn more about them during our no-fee care coordination visit with our team at Fermata.
