Announcing: Rapid Acting Mental Health Treatment 2024
I can't believe this newsletter is crossing the Rubicon into the real world, but that's what's happening.
Welcome to the Frontier Psychiatrists newsletter. It is usually the place for the future of health-related writing, according to one guy on the internet. However, today, I am thrilled to announce an in-person event! It is real; it’s been held the night before JPM Healthcare 2024 starts in earnest, and the wildest part is this wasn't even my idea…
The first live event hosted by this fine newsletter:
Rapid-Acting Mental Health Treatment, 2024 (website)…with an associated Eventbrite Link (tickets).
This is a one-day series of conversations, along with a pretty good party. The event occurs the night before the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference 2024 opens on Monday, Jan 8th! Sunday, January 7th, 6:00-9:00 pm.
This live, in-person event is presented in partnership with BrainFutures, a 501 © 3 not-for-profit organization.1
It’s the first live event produced by this substack!
The story of how this came to be? A reader request! Grady Hannah and I got to talking. He’s the CEO of Nightware, which makes a remarkable medical device—510k cleared, with breakthrough status by the FDA— for treating nightmares, particularly those associated with PTSD. We were chatting about how fast the change can be regarding treatments like the similarly 510k Cleared Breakthrough SAINT Neuromodulation, for which my clinic is a research site. Grady said —enough times—that this is an unbelievable change—and it’s so fast.!
For example, SAINT can have depression in remission with 5 days of treatment. Nightware can “kick-in” after 2 nights, improving sleep quality and reducing nightmares—even in people with PTSD! Videra Health—an event sponsor—can measure change (with its video capture systems) using existing validated rating scales and vastly “more granular” machine learning at once.
A lot changes when the change can happen faster than existing assumptions imagine. It is possible, for example, that we don’t need “more psychiatric beds”—we might need more effective treatments that lead to a shorter length of stay in a hospital. This seemed like an overarching topic for our first live-action Substack event.

And thanks to our to sponsors!!!
MediaWe do still have room for more sponsors, and would be thrilled to have you as a sponsor of this remarkable event. Feel free to reach out!

So that's what's happening, it's a real life event, it's a live action newsletter, and that's even a little bit nerdier than a live action podcast. It was born out of this Substack, and conversations I had with readers about it. Some of those readers are awesome people like Grady, who helped me build this event, and visionaries like David and his team at BrainFutures. If you're gonna be at JP Morgan Health, or just like coming to hear innovators talk about things in person, you can get one of the tickets as of right now.
Live action Substack. It's a thing. You heard it here first. Thanks for reading, and please share this with everybody you know!

Yes. It’s an “Substack live” event.
Looking forward :)
