I read an earlier draft and loved it and this draft has made me cry. Proud of you and it’s true, we have a touch of hypomania to thank for our paths crossing at AACAP a decade ago and becoming intertwined ever since.
Thanks for sharing this - the public needs more examples of real patients with the disorder than Ye. I cut my RCT teeth with BPII research a decade ago, have personal experience with the disorder, and know how difficult it can be to properly diagnose (and how undiagnosed ADHD can exacerbate the process of simply identifying what's wrong). Following is a link to the BPII research that set the stage for much larger research I just completed that will be published next month - I hope our paths cross soon!: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26414234/
Just amazing, the right concoction of moving, informative and fascinating. I found you through Leon MacFayden, loved the title of your Substack, and now trawling through your posts as and when I have the time to read uninterrupted. Thank you!
Plenty! Nationalism, willful Ignorance , lassie fare, selfishness, yadda yadda… But it is hard when you know love is the only answer. No matter what. Now I’m going to YouTube to watch more Russian tanks blown up.
Dr Muir, I was lucky enough to come across your article while skimming my emails for CME credits for my PA license. Although I knew this wasn't a CME presentation, I was intrigued and wanted to read the article. It was Excellent and really made me rethink evaluation/diagnosis of patients. Thank you for your openness and candid conversation. I look forward to more.
Oh wow! That does not surprise me - I say that because your writing was not only informative but also and easy, enjoyable read. (similar to a great teacher). Thank you again.
Holy cow - I applaud you - even before this post - just getting to know/read you and I am so impressed...but THIS! This is fantastic - reading it in between a busy patient schedule and Im torn from one screen to the next. Havnet finished it yet but HAD TO comment. BRAVO my dude! I wish I had such talent of expression in writing. Never really worked that muscle - trying now in my 'old age'. But again, this is about you, not me - KUDOS. I cant wait to catch up on what ive missed so far and what is yet to come. A bit over the top - but it was my immediate response to reading your post - so its an honest over the top lol. (FYI - already told a pt about some of the resources you have educated me about, so thanks for that too).
I deeply appreciate the feedback. This piece took a long time to write. I only started writing about seven months ago, really, thanks to people in my life encouraging me. I would appreciate, if you're willing, a referral on Substack for my newsletter, it drives traffic and that's pretty useful to get the word out.
I can validate almost everything you report here so graphically. I wish I that were not the case. As your mother I lived through much of this with you and was largely helpless to do anything to alter the ghastly roll out. Owen, I admire that fact that though you are Job in your way, you don't play the victim. Your story forewarns or explains ex post facto so many things fellow travellers need to know.
Thank you for writing about this. As a psychotherapist, I believe we have a special insight into our clients when we also have and work with our own mental health battles/challenges/ liberators/muses. It's a complicated relationship to navigate and we can understand the nuances our clients face as well.

Thank you so much! It's a podcast too!
Thanks for sharing, Owen. This should be required reading for all mental health professionals, medical providers, med students, nurses, people, etc.
Well, it is not without a cost to write, so I'm thrilled if it gets read...
Refreshing truth and gratitude. The mental health field is best with you in it.
Tell oSm his approach to tms saves lives. Bipolar,do you think so?
“Yup”
Thanks for sharing bud. Me too. We gonna have to rift about it sometime.
Thanks! I'd be thrilled for a substack recommendation if you be willing.
Authentic, truthful and honest. Exactly why I’m a fan!
It's not always a popular stance
Yet we go on. No regrets.
What other choice do we have?

I also spent a lot of time creating cme content for aacap, so I consider this a great honor.

Thanks--dear readers, listen to your mother.
Thanks for your deepest thoughts and courage. I was wondering what medication you are on for BP
Whatever my doctor says
