In my prior article on Abilify, I opined on how this was the best drug name. I might have to take it back. I think I figured out where Seroquel comes from—name-wise—it's amazing. I am in the middle of a series of articles on Seroquel, the AstraZenica Blockbuster antipsychotic. I have already done this one, on schizophrenia, and this one, on borderline personality disorder. Today…musing on the name, and where I imagine it must have come from. This is a palate-cleansing sorbet.

/ˈsirō,

ˈserō/

combining form

  1. relating to serum.

    "serotype"

Combined with… Quell, minus one extra “L”…

quell

verb

  1. put an end to (a rebellion or other disorder), typically by the use of force.

    "extra police were called to quell the disturbance"

So this particular drug name is about calming down your hot blood.

That is a great drug name. It might even be better than Abilify. At the end of the day? Seroquel does what it says—if only by making you very sleepy. Abilify doesn't add ability in quite the same way.
