As a cutting-edge psychiatrist, I frequently am asked to comment on the ceremonial use of psychedelic compounds. I am proud to announce that I have nothing to say—as a doctor— about the spiritual use of psychedelics.

This is not because I have nothing to say about it. It's because, in my role as a physician, there are several things about which I have nothing to say. I get to talk about medical stuff as a doctor. Medicine is a quirky beast. The difference between assault with a deadly weapon and Medical care is the combination of 1. Licensure (which is regulated by states) 2. Standards (which are determined by doctors) 3. And ethics of practice (which are determined by doctors and are not the same as what is legal).
