So I published my first article as the modern era author of this novel experimental newsletter situation one year ago, on July the 1st, 2022. Since then, it has been the best of times. It has —in no way— been the worst of times. It’s like halcyon days came to Elysium.
This newsletter is a daily jaunt into health, the business thereof, its discontents, with a focus on minds, because I am a psychiatrist. It’s very intentionally not exactly clear what I am up to…but it seems like I am building towards something? I have a radical agenda! Or should be dismissed as a crack pot? Honestly, I’d tell you but they metrics don’t lie, so I am going to keep letting you figure it out on your own, dear readers. Regardless, given how fine everything has been…
Here! Photographic documentation of the trouble free last year:
Wait a minute…
Nope. Not that either….hmmm…
Maybe there were some ups and downs? I might be remembering things with rose colored glasses. My mom has that strategy on lock:
Right? She has helped me edit this newsletter by the way…without further ado, the readers choice year in review for the TFPs!
provided guidelines for this kind of post:A milestone post ideally serves as both a manifesto and marketing. It’s an opportunity to reflect on your journey on Substack and put forward your vision for the future. Plus, writing a milestone post can encourage sharing and generate new subscriptions and upgrades to paid.
Whether you’re celebrating your first 100 signups or four years of writing your newsletter, in this post we’ll cover how to make your milestone moment have maximum impact by following six components:
Except I have ADHD, so I got distracted and did these reader favorites instead.

‘s favorite is:My favorite article of Owens is "Pizza, Interrupted." It shows the incredible things that can be achieved by just one person showing compassion. I'm reassured that, in a world that increasingly looks uncaring and oblivious, some people are still willing to reach out to help others. One person can change the world - at least for someone.
Check out what Leon is up to, I am a fan! He even interviewed me recently for a collaboration!
Reader Nate Lacktman especially enjoyed the following article. My wife—currently and executive at a tech company, and formerly the chief executive officer of a group Psychiatry practice, said
added this:“I enjoy this piece on a personal and professional level. Not letting the vampires in really spoke to me.”
I was trying to get a good quote that was a little bit longer, and she really didn't want do it. My flight of fancy imagined quote is something like: “I appreciate it how he wrote a completely fictional story that isn't about any specific vampire, and really made it about all vampires.”
Reader Lukas at

Reader and Uk Health-Tech Innovator
loved this article about psychedelics:Owen consistently brings an authentic, original and thought provoking take on psychiatric current affairs. The Frontier Psychiatrists is a must read for anyone interested in mental health.
Ash went on to highlight this:
my favourite (yes he's that British!) all time sentence is this " The difference between assault with a deadly weapon and Medical care is the combination of 1. Licensure (which is regulated by states) 2. Standards (which are determined by doctors) 3. And ethics of practice (which are determined by doctors and are not the same as what is legal).

My favorite podcast episode was years in the making:

The most popular post I wrote is still kinda a shock to me:
This took about 2 months to complete. It is kinda of an act of absurdist torture in structure as an homage to David Foster Wallace and its subject matter.
The metrics remain strong
With strong engagement and open rates:

More accurately, I thrive on the engagement:
