This series of posts about how to stop taking antidepressants is eye opening and “should” be required reading for anyone who has a license to prescribe them. It’s shocking how much doctors don’t know about these medications and yet feel free to prescribe them like they are candy. I believe that psychotropic medication should only be prescribed by psychopharmacologists but unfortunately our system of healthcare doesn’t allow for this. Primary care physicians who are well meaning and prescribing these medications should be required to have more intensive training. What that exactly means or entails I’m not sure. Perhaps you can suggest something. The lack of mental health care in this country is appalling and more so the intense push back from insurance companies to cover the care that their customers are paying for so dearly.

Great series! I appreciate the PET data! I haven't had patients have issues with escitalopram discontinuation beyond a few days, but for SNRIs and paroxetine, quite a few have had difficulty.
