Dear Mount Sinai Health System, I Guess We Are Disputing This Bill In Public?
Public shaming of not-for-profit health systems is our civic duty
I went to the dermatologist recently. He was very nice. Excellent bedside manner. I strongly recommend him, as a physician. I was concerned that I might have cancerous lesions. I did not. They were removed. This was not covered by insurance. I agreed to pay the amount it would cost privately, anyway.
However, I did write the following, thanks to the wonderful Al Lewis of Quizzify , on my bill, after red-lining out unbelievable nonsense they would otherwise include. It says this.
“"Superseding other consents, I consent to responsibility (including insurance) for up to 2 times Medicare following receipt of an itemized bill for appropriate treatment coded at the correct Level."
I wrote this on the financial consent documents in pen. I then paid the copay and the $350 upcharge on the removal of skin tags “not covered by insurance”. The following screenshots are presented to formally protest this contractual violation and of course to publicly shame MSSM and encourage everyone to do the same with all hospitals, but especially non-profit hospitals like MSSM which didn’t provide me with the legally mandated patient assistance documents I requested nor make it clear that legally had to in order to justify their non-profit status.
