I can remember nothing about where I was when ChatGPT was released. I can barely remember any conversation at any party prior to it. Everyone's talking about AI. OK, there's one exception—we have an education secretary who's talking about A1. It's one person talking about steak sauce— and let's not misunderstanding each other, it's an excellent steak sauce— and everybody else is talking about AI.

In the beginning, we all imagined it would be able to do all sorts of work for us. For me, that hasn't been true. There is work AI does for me, but it's become so routine that I don't even think about it. Do you remember medical scribes? Those were people, who were not doctors, who follow doctors around and wrote notes based on what happened in clinical encounters. Doctor then had to check their work, which is its own sort of hell, to figure out what they got wrong.
