Welcome to The Frontier Psychiatrists. When I became a substack best-selling author, I knew it was big for me. I even did a podcast about the passive three-digit-a-month lifestyle I was living. I know— I’m important. I even have a book on Amazon…(affiliate link). Oh, and another book of poetry. And a therapy manual.
But I also read what other people write. I’m one of the top 5% of readers on Substack, too. Today, I share that data with you.

Webworm with David Farrier by
David Farrier's weird investigations, quirks & oddities delivered direct to your inbox!
David Farrier is my favorite filmmaker by a little bit. My second favorite is Errol Morris, of course. David’s films, like Tickled and Mr. Organ, are just utter masterpieces. One of my hopes for my life is that David makes a movie about the person who has been harassing me for years. David, if you need a new documentary subject, CALL ME. Also, Webworm is a great substack, and his flightless bird podcast is awesome.

Everything Is An Emergency by
I'm Bess Stillman: ER doctor, writer, and wife to Jake Seliger, who is currently dying of SCC of the tongue. I write about the challenges of being corporeal. Here you'll find essays on life, death, cancer, love, health & healthcare.
Bess is a real-life friend who started a newsletter while her husband was in the process of dying. Jake is now dead. It’s a huge bummer, and I’ve written about it too. Bess is a monster writer and a brilliant human, and I love her dearly. Read her work and Jake’s, and be happy you have seen what good writing on the internet can be.

Rat Park with Carl Erik Fisher by
A psychiatrist in recovery explores the addictions in all of us, integrating science, philosophy, and the art of flourishing in recovery. Columbia University bioethicist, author of THE URGE: OUR HISTORY OF ADDICTION, a New Yorker Best Book of 2022 (amazon link).
Carl, I also have the pleasure of knowing real life first! He was an attending physician when I was a 4th-year resident moonlighting in the LIJ ER. He's a great writer and a thoughtful addiction specialist. Addiction is a real problem, and Carl has a better handle on it than most.

You can see your summer recap in the Substack app. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading, especially if it’s about me, to paraphrase Kurt Cobain.
